At Alps Dx, we believe every process can be improved when patient outcomes, workplace safety, and the efficiency of the laboratory industry are at stake. 

For decades, oral fluid testing promised a less invasive, more patient-friendly alternative to urine and blood testing. In practice, however, the preanalytical stage of drug screening remained slow, manual, and difficult to scale. Repeated glove changes, inefficient sample filtration, and improvised workarounds created barriers to adoption and frustration for laboratories, even as customers continued to expect the same sensitivity and reliability they were accustomed to with urine testing. 

That was the challenge our founders set out to solve. 

Les Edinboro spent decades working in clinical and forensic toxicology. During his tenure at a leading clinical reference laboratory, he helped implement an oral fluid testing program. While significant analytical hurdles were overcome, the preanalytical phase remained a persistent obstacle to widespread adoption. After leaving the corporate environment, Les identified a new application of existing technology that could remove these barriers and unlock the full potential of oral fluid testing. 

Working alongside colleagues Greg Ourednik and Brian Sorel, he began the journey to bring true automation to preanalytical oral fluid sample preparation. The addition of Ali Safavi, an established business entrepreneur, helped translate that technical vision into a scalable, market-ready solution. Together, the team combined deep scientific, engineering, and business expertise to build something new. 

Inspired by lessons from automation in other industries, the Alps Dx team reimagined how oral fluid could move seamlessly from patient to lab, replacing manual, error-prone steps with connected, fit-for-purpose solutions. 

The result is Alps Dx — a company dedicated to transforming the oral fluid continuum for drug screening and beyond. From collection to filtration, from instrumentation to data connectivity, Alps Dx reduces manual handling, improves safety, and enables laboratories to scale with confidence. 

Because at the end of the day, this work is not just about technology. It is about patients, providers, and workplaces that depend on clear, reliable answers. By improving preanalytical processes, Alps Dx is laying the foundation for a safer, more accessible future in testing, delivered end to end.
