For decades, oral fluid testing promised a more flexible and accessible alternative to traditional testing methods. In practice, however, the preanalytical stage remained slow, manual, and difficult to scale. Repetitive workflows, inefficient sample preparation, and disconnected processes created barriers to broader adoption even as demand for oral fluid workflows continued to grow. That was the challenge our founders set out to solve. Les Edinboro spent decades working in clinical and forensic toxicology. During his tenure at a leading reference laboratory, he helped implement oral fluid workflows firsthand. While significant analytical hurdles were overcome, the preanalytical phase remained a persistent obstacle to broader adoption. After leaving the corporate environment, Les identified an opportunity to modernize these workflows through connected, automation-friendly technologies. Working alongside colleagues Greg Ourednik and Brian Sorel, he began the journey to bring true automation to preanalytical oral fluid workflows. The addition of Ali Safavi, an established business entrepreneur, helped translate that technical vision into a scalable, market-ready platform. Together, the team combined deep scientific, engineering, and business expertise to build something new. Inspired by lessons from automation in other industries, the Alps Dx team reimagined how oral fluid workflows could move seamlessly from collection through preparation and processing, replacing manual, error-prone steps with connected, fit-for-purpose solutions. The result is Alps Dx — a company dedicated to modernizing the oral fluid testing continuum through connected technologies spanning collection, preparation, automation, and workflow connectivity. From instrumentation to software, Alps Dx helps streamline manual processes, improve operational continuity, and support scalable oral fluid workflows across evolving testing environments. Because at the end of the day, this work is not just about technology. It is about creating more accessible, connected, and scalable workflows for the people and organizations that depend on reliable oral fluid processes every day.
